Accessibility Statement
A commitment to a usable site for everyone.
Last updated - May 2026Our commitment
This website is designed to be usable by people of all abilities. Accessibility is treated as a continuous effort rather than a one-time checklist, and feedback from users is taken seriously and acted on.
Conformance standard
This site is designed and audited against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG 2.1 AA is the technical benchmark widely recognized in the United States for accessible websites and is the standard cited in most current legal guidance for digital accessibility.
What is implemented
Specific accessibility features built into this site include:
- Adequate color contrast between text and background, validated against WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios
- Full keyboard navigation, all interactive elements (links, buttons, expandable cards, the table of contents) are reachable and operable without a mouse
- Visible focus indicators on interactive elements for keyboard users
- Logical heading hierarchy (H1, H2, H3) on every page, supporting screen reader navigation
- Alternative text on meaningful images
- Semantic HTML landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) so assistive technology can move through the page structure
- Responsive layouts that adapt to mobile, tablet, and desktop viewports without loss of content
- Sticky tables of contents on long reference pages to reduce navigation effort
Known limitations
Some content may not yet meet every WCAG 2.1 AA criterion:
- Third-party content. Journal articles, society guidelines, and other documents linked from this site are authored externally. Their accessibility cannot be guaranteed.
- Embedded media. Where third-party videos or PDFs are embedded, caption quality and alternative-format availability depend on the original source.
- Complex tables. Some board-review tables with many columns are best read on tablet or desktop. Mobile views collapse them into a card layout, but density on a small screen is inherently a usability tradeoff.
Feedback and assistance
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site, or need content provided in an alternative format, please get in touch. Accessibility feedback is treated as a priority and we aim to respond within two business days.
